GARDEN OF THE GODS

Friday, April 4th 2014

Dear Garden on the Gods,

Seeing your red rock formations, which were created along fault lines millions of years ago, made me think about all the history you have seen. Your rocks are covered in petroglyphs of early Utes showing a spiritual connection between the landscape and its inhabitants. Today, I saw carvings of modern names. For example, I saw “Mike + Jen” and “Tom was here” carved into your rocks. It is amazing to think about how much we as a human society have evolved over time and the history you have seen. It is incredible to think that once upon a time dinosaurs roamed on the grounds in which you lie today and that there are over 130 bird species currently flying in your region. Not only have we evolved as a human society, but the geology and ecology of your region has adapted as well.

On my Life Walk through Garden of the Gods, I was awed by your beauty, the splendor in your details, and the exquisiteness of the people and animals around me. The journey began as we loaded up our car and departed toward I-25. The car was full of five girls who came together for different reasons, some of us knew each other from prior courses and others were fresh faces. It amazed me that such a new group of ladies could have so much fun together in one car ride, and that is where the journey began. Throughout my Life Walk I began to get to know more and more of my classmates. It is really quite fun to spend an entire afternoon getting to know new people and understanding the many levels of diversity we have on our campus.

All in all, Garden of the Gods, I thank you for bringing me closer to forming new friendships and enlightening me on your history. The memories I captured with my Sony NEX-6 will remind me of this time and I look forward to meeting with you again.

Sincerely,

Alana Dreimann
